Senator Iyabo Anisulowo has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Ilaro in the yewa south local government area of Ogun state. Premium Times reports that the former minister for education was abducted by armed men alongside her security aide along Igbogila road in the evening on Wednesday, April 27.
Muyiwa Adejobi who is the spokesperson of the Ogun state police command confirmed the abduction. He said: “The Ogun State police command is aware of the kidnapping of Senator Iyabo Anisulowo in Ilaro area today around 6pm. The Commissioner of Police Ogun State CP Abdulmajid Ali has detailed five teams to the area to rescue her unhurt,” Mr. Adejobi said in a statement.
“The special Anti-Robbery Squad SARS, and Anti-Kidnapping Squad Commanders have been sent to the area by the CP to rescue the senator and apprehend the perpetrators. We have also embarked on scientific investigation of the matter.”
“We therefore assure the general public particularly the good people and Government of Ogun State that the kidnapped victim will be rescued very soon unhurt. We appeal to Nigerians and people of Ogun State to support the police command with useful information to assist the police.”
Anisulowo who recently celebrated her 70th birthday was a senator who represented Ogun West senatorial district between 2003 and 2007 and was rumoured to be nursing a gubernatorial ambition ahead of 2019 elections.
Less than a week ago, Mrs Adebimpe Ogunlumade who is the permanent secretary of Osun state ministry of finance, budget and economic planning was abducted by unknown gunmen. Mrs Ogunlade was kidnapped alongside her driver, Mr Oladapo Arogundade Ajani and a director from the ministry, Mr Tajudeen Badejoko at Obajana along Lokoja-Okene road in Kogi state on their way to Osogbo from Abuja.
They however regained their freedom a few days after although it wasn’t clear if any ransom was paid.
